The Gospel in More Detail #5

Trusting in Jesus

As a result we can be forgiven by God, take Jesus' position as our own, and become children of God - that is, all that Jesus merited in living perfectly under God's rule can be claimed by us, simply by putting our trust in Him. Because of this, Jesus is truly the only way to God.

Trusting in Jesus means trying to live God's way, knowing that Jesus's death was enough to fully secure our total forgiveness and reconciliation with God - there is nothing we can do to make us "more saved". Once we live like this, God counts us as His children just like Jesus is His Son.

And Jesus is the only way to God: He is the only one who substituted Himself for our sake, and it is His perfection that we need to be reconciled to God.

   The Bible says:  (top)

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

   and...  (top)

The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs - heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. (Romans 8:16-17)

   and Jesus said:  (top)

I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6)
