The Mitchells
I know James Mitchell, and his wife Air, through our church. James is a few years older than me and I always respected him for his faith. He trusts in God, and God has seen him through a great deal of trouble and pain.
I can only imagine that a year before writng this (writing 2004), James reached a point where he saw what God was doing with his life - all of a sudden he was married and was finding new use for his gifts - and was amazed! So what was his response? He moved with his wife to Thailand to help build up her home church, and to minister around Khon Kaen. Here's a message from James:
Hi! My name is James Mitchell. I am not a missionary as such but I am an evangelical Christian living in a country that is 96% Buddhist, 3% Muslim and less than 0.5% Christian. In fact Thailand has one of the lowest percentages of Christians in the world and the area that I live in - Isaan - has even fewer Christians than the rest of Thailand. This is quite extraordinary because Thailand is a free country for evangelism. But for most Thais being Thai means being Buddhist and becoming a Christian means leaving your culture behind.
I live in Khon Kaen a city of about 200,000 people in the north east of Thailand - the Isaan region. This is the poorest part of Thailand and relatively few missionaries have worked here. I am married to Air - a Thai citizen - who has worked with Churches in the Isaan region for the past nine years. We moved to Khon Kaen in January 2004 and have settled into life here, working and ministering at Air's Church and in other Churches around Khon Kaen.
