Find a Good Church

There are three main things to consider when joining a new church:

Is the Teaching at the Church Biblical?  (top)

A good way to check if the teaching at the church is Biblical is to: -

Basically, make sure that the Bible is held up to be the ultimate authority in the Church.

Are the Members of the Church Godly People?  (top)

Christians are not perfect, but you should be able to see people within a church trying to do God's will. That is what is important, and it is also a good indication of whether the church is Biblical or not.

Could You Fit Into the Church Easily - Are There Members You Could Make Friends With?  (top)

In many ways, this is the least important of the things to consider, though it definitely is worth taking into consideration. As was mentioned previously, spending time with other Christians is very important. Part of that is developing friendships. This question is basically asking whether you think you would be able to develop a friendship with people in the church so that you can encourage them, and they can encourage you.

Taking all these into consideration may mean you spend some time going from church to church, trying to find a good one. Unfortunately, there are many out there that profess to be Christian, but frankly have forgotten what that means.

Generally, an "Evangelical" church is a good one to look for. That means it could be an "Anglican Evangelical" church, or "Baptist Evangelical" church, or "Uniting Evangelical" or "Presbyterian Evangelical" church etc. "Evangelical" basically is used as a renewed statement of the centrality, authority and importance of the Bible as God's infallible word.

Overall and finally, pray that God will guide you to a church that He wants you to attend, and seek His guidance in this. Read your Bible and test what is said in the service at any church you attend.
