About this Site

The Purpose of this Site:  (top)

"Jesus" is a swear word to some people - in fact, to a lot of people. To others, Jesus is the leader of a do-good religion named Christianity. Some haven't formed a strong opinion about Him. Others say He's the most important man to have ever lived.

I'm one of those who believe that Jesus was the most important man who ever lived and as such, my aim in this site is to provide answers to those wondering who Jesus is, and why so many people call him their Lord and Saviour. I also aim to provide encouraging and biblical teaching (usually in a summarised or introductory form) on many topics of interest to Christians, so that they can grow in their own relationship with God and be better equipped to introduce others to Him.

The Title: 1way2God.net  (top)

I chose 1way2God.net because it is a great summary of Jesus' teaching in John 14:6: "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the father but by me". This is not only a great gospel truth - that Jesus is the way to the father; but a warning to those who don't put their faith in Christ: He is the only way to God.

About Me:  (top)

My name is Daniel Glynn, and I am the sole content provider for 1way2God.net. I am married to my beautiful Sarah, and we live in Sydney, Australia. We are both blessed to have great families, but don't have any kids ourselves (yet). I work full-time as the Operations Manager for a human resources consulting firm, and have attended the same local church for over twenty years.
The picture to the left is of me in my home office. God has blessed us greatly to live in a quiet street with a great view out the window to a lot of greenery - I don't think I could ever get enough green!

I grew up not far from where I live now, in the Southern Suburbs of Sydney, in a loving Christian family. Even though I attended church and youth group all my life, I didn't understand or accept the gospel until I was sixteen. Since then, I've only found myself content when studying the Scriptures and my aim in ministry is simply to work for the Kingdom as God would use me.

My favourite colour is blue, but I'm not passionate about it. I enjoy at least two cups of coffee per day (and at most, three), though sometimes there is nothing better than a good cup of tea. My nickname for my teenage years was 'Cow', I've grown in appreciation of the task of mowing lawns (since I bought my own house), I really enjoy seeing a slightly manicured garden with many and varied shades of green with pockets of other vivid colours, and can become quickly engrossed in a good Tom Clancy novel. I do enjoy cooking and now have four or five 'signature' dishes (I'm working on the fifth as I write - Guinesss Stew), and also quite enjoy taking nice pictures. I've been lucky enough to travel with work to the U.S. and to the U.K., and have travelled with my wife all over Scotland and parts of France, as well as Australia, taking pictures all the way.

Christian authors I read include: Leon Morris, Don Carson, John Piper, Wayne Grudem, Paul Barnett, F.F. Bruce, Charles Swindoll, John Stott, J.I. Packer and ohers. I love listening to John Piper preach, usually listening to three or four sermons per week. When it comes to TV, I'm a big comedy and drama fan. I would have to say Arrested Development, The West Wing, Seinfeld, BlackAdder, Yes Prime Mnister and Fawlty Towers will be series' that I will always enjoy - timeless (for me at least).

   Studies  (top)

After High School I took a year off and worked, and then started a Science degree at Sydney University, with an official major in Computer Science, and an unofficial 2nd major in Religious Studies. In my second year at Uni (2001) I began to think about this website, and started putting it together towards the end of that calendar year. In my third year I had managed to get myself a decreased load of work, and so spent the majority of my time in 2002 studying theology and writing for this site. I graduated at the end of 2002 and immediately enrolled at the School Of Christians Studies (SOCS) at Robert Menzies College, studying full-time for two years, but the majority by distance learning. At the same time, I studied as part of a group towards the Preliminary Theological Certificate (PTC) from Moore College. In 2004 I achieved the PTC from Moore College and graduated from SOCS with a Diploma of Theology. After studying theology full-time for two years, I decided I was learning more and dedicating myself more fully to studying when I was writing for this site, rather than coursework, and so at this stage have decided not to return to "official" theological study. God may change my mind though.

   Ministries  (top)

As well as this site, which, unfortunately has lately received only the dregs of my time, I am an active member of my local church; there leading a Bible Study (cell group) every Wednesday night, leading services every six weeks or so, sitting on the Evening Church Ministry Team, and participating in band wherever I'm needed. In the past I have also taught Scripture at local schools, typed the parish newsletter and sat on Parish Council.

No biography of me would be complete without a mention of my late pet dog Rusty (I know, an incredibly original name for a dog - but at least she was rust-coloured!). She was (almost) a pure-bred Australian Kelpie, and was hit by a car when she was still a puppy. Her owners had to leave her with the RSPCA (animal welfare place) to have a leg operation and that's where we found her. We chose her because while all the other dogs were barking and carrying on, she merely set her tail wagging uncontrollably and tried to lick our hands through the cage. She's eating a bone!! (When we chose her the people there were so happy - apparently she'd been due to be put down two weeks' previously but they didn't because they could tell she was so amazingly good natured and cute. God had a plan!) In many tough times of my life (before Sarah came along), some of my favourite times were taking Rusty for a walk down to the beach where she'd alternate between being afraid of the water and charging suicidally at me but swerving at the last minute. Sometimes she forgot to swerve. Sadly, towards the end of her life, Rusty grew old, blind and deaf, and was suffering a bit from various other problems, and we organised to have her put down in January 2008. She was a good dog.

More Than You Probably Wanted to Know About This Site  (top)

"Interesting" Facts about This Site  (top)

  • 1way2God.net was first uploaded on 31 March 2002 - which was also Easter Sunday.
  • www.onewaytogod.net, www.1way2god.com and www.1way2god.org all point to this site.
  • As I look at the above picture of me, it looks like a setup - the Bible open, computers on, nice day, clean room, I've shaved this week, etc. This is not the case - while re-writing this page I decided I needed a new photo, so setup my camera on a tripod and took the shot with room as is. While I did take about twenty shots and chose the one with the least embarrasing expression on my face, and while I did, halfway through those shots decide to open my internet explorer to my own site for the sake of the picure, nothing else was setup. Just imagine how bad some of those others shots of me must have been that I chose the above!
  • 1way2God.net is written in Australian English - so any apparent mystakes or tpyos are hopefully just the Australian spelling. We use a great deal less "Z"s than Americans do, and have entirely different spelling of some words. While I sometimes see the value in using a 'z' rather than an 's' (for ease of pronunciation usually), I'm remaining loyal to my country.
  • The site originally existed in my head as "1truth.net.au", and I still have some 1way2God stuff stored in directories named "tth" - which is "truth" minus the vowels... (I think it took me a week or two to realise that in removing the vowels from "truth" to get "tth", I had also unwittingly removed the "r"... which I'm perfectly aware isn't a vowel. This is a fairly good indication of my mental capabilities most of the time.)
  • In a very real way, the site is a record of my own walk with God. I think the expression is true of me and my writing: "I write as I learn, and I learn as I write".1

   Site History  (top)

This is a constantly growing site - at any one time I look at the contents and know of at least five things I want to add to it, at least ten things I would like to review or change, or read over, and I have two or three major ideas for improvement or addition. I also know that there is probably at least one typo on every page, and several sentences that are in desperate need of rewording. (Given that currently there are about 250 pages, that's 250 typos, and about a thousand badly phrased sentences!)

Anyway, here's a page with a bit of a running commentary on how this site has gone over the years, and how I've fared as an "Internet Minister".

The Maintenance of this Site:  (top)

I'm a pretty laid-back guy (it's a nicer word than "lazy") and don't want to do anything that a computer could do for me - especially if the computer could do it faster and better than me! So, after learning how to 'break the spirit' of these often annoying machines at uni whilst studying Computer Programming, I found myself able to write a program that would generate web-pages for me - in fact a whole Website - based on simple text files written in a computer language I made up. (Of course, I still had to work out how to write webpages so that I could program my program to do it for me! It's amazing what a university education won't teach you!.) The program I wrote automatically formats the page and adds navigation systems, graphics and other links. It even sorts out which files have been changed and therefore need to be uploaded to the Internet.

   More???  (top)

Sorry, that's all from me. God bless! I pray regularly and ask that God would bless you (the visitor) to my site, with increased knowledge of Him. I hope you found encouragement here (and not just a load of typos!) If you benefited from my labours on this site, please aid me with your prayers to our heavenly Father.

1   This expression has been used in one shape or form by great Christian authors such as Augustine and Calvin - and while neither my learning nor writing stack up to theirs, I find the saying nevertheless true for me as well.    (jump back to text)
